Lidy Besteman reinterprets works by Rembrandt, Picasso and Klimt, imbuing them with a fresh, ‘Lidyfied’ aspect. Lidy greets everyone she meets with the words ‘Pretty eyes’, although the figures in her works regard their audience with a melancholy countenance. Lidy works with coloured ink on stretched water colour paper, usually drawing faces or human figures. Once this basis is completed, she uses ink and a dip pen to cover the entire drawing with tiny black squiggles. It is as if the drawing needs to be filled with repetition, a process that Lidy enjoys.
